Media maximises retailer misery (shock horror)

Several retail chains reported reduced profits this week (a whole 10% down on the same period last year).

So a 10% reduction in sales is the “armageddon” “meltdown” “financial implosion” that the media are hyping is it? I would have thought that given the extent of the credit crunch a 10% reduction isn’t exactly the end of capitalism as we know it. It must be tough when your net profit drops from 50 million to 45 million but I suspect most of these companies will survive!!

UK media – get a life……. please.

Is it just my imagination or does the UK media really revel in doom, gloom and disaster???

Every negative story gets emphasised, underlined, highlighted, regurgitated, nappy changed, talcum powdered, window dressed, tinsel draped and gift wrapped. Ok, bad news is bad news but why do they have take such naked joy is shoving it down our throats over and over and over and over again?

Get a life UK media.

In the meantime, turn down the volume on your TV and just lip synch BLAH BLAH BLAH to what the newsreader says, have a large bar of chocolate, draw a moustache or vulcan ears on the pic of Alastair Darling on the front page of the Times and LO! all will seem better!!

Spontaneous Joy breaks out in construction

Mass joy is gripping the UK construction industry as the doom and gloom peddled by our pessimistic media has begun to lift.

Despite desperate attempts by newsrooms and newspapers to underline every single bit of bad news (and ignore the good), it is clear that the building industry is starting to recover slightly. Good news from Barratt Homes this week confirms what we are finding – houses are being built.

In fact, one of our major housebuilder clients has fourteen plots for us to safety deck next week on one site! Ok they are all social housing rather than private but bricks are bricks as far as worried tradespeople are concerned.

Sure, we must be cautious, but we prefer to empahsise the good rather than allowing an overly pessimistic media which loves nothing more than to roll in disaster like a dog rolling in a dirty puddle!

Stay positive and don’t let news-at-ten grind you down!!

In the FT yesterday Eric Daniels the Chief Exec of Lloyds TSB (about to merge with HBOS) stated that “the government will have no impact on our business strategy and lending practices”.

How arrogant and self-righteous – clearly this guy has learned absolutely nothing from the banking collapse.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. A treasury spokesman was quoted in response “You would think they might listen to their biggest shareholder”. Right, fat chance! All they want is our money – what other use are we to them?

Bondeck launches new website!!

All of us at Bondeck are very excited to announce the launch of our new website. First off we should say thanks to our friends at Atelier Studios in Southampton for doing such a great job – thanks guys!

The old website was around before I joined the company (and it was already gathering dust). The new site looks great, it’s modern, fresh and tidy with easy navigation (take a look – www.bondeck.com) and is easy to update with news articles and new product details.
